Blue and Gold Marching Band Competition to be held Sept. 29

Thirteen marching bands from high schools across the Commonwealth will come to Morehead State to compete in the Blue and Gold Championship of Marching bands on Saturday, Sept. 29, at Jayne Stadium.

Each band will earn a Kentucky Music Education Association sanctioned rating of distinguished, proficient, apprentice or novice. They will compete within their sanctioned class for first, second and third place in addition to competing for overall awards for outstanding auxiliary and percussion. The band with the highest overall score will win the MSU Blue and Gold Grand Champion Award.

  • Lewis County, 12:30 p.m.
  • Pike County Central, 12:45 p.m.
  • Owen County, 1 p.m.
  • Powell County, 1:15 p.m.
  • Break, 1:30 p.m.
  • Harrison County, 1:45 p.m.
  • Bourbon County, 2 p.m.
  • Rowan County, 2:15 p.m.
  • Break, 2:30 p.m.
  • Bullitt Central, 2:45 p.m.
  • Madison Southern, 3 p.m.
  • George Rogers Clark, 3:15 p.m.
  • Campbell County, 3:30 p.m.
  • Preliminary Awards, 4 p.m.

The top 10 finalists will hold their final performances beginning at 6 p.m. At 8:45 p.m., the Morehead State Marching Band will hold an exhibition performance, and the class and overall awards will be presented at 9 p.m.

Adjudicators at this year’s event are Robert Fischer, Greg Snyder, Nick Riley, Brett Owens, Robert Lee, Greg Mills, Tom Mueller and Tony Ballin.

General admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Children five and under are admitted free.
