Constitution Day activities planned

Constitution-Day-400-133.pngMorehead State’s Department of History, Philosophy, Politics, International Studies and Legal Studies will host four days of special programs in honor of Constitution Day.  

Sept. 17 is the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution by the Constitutional Convention in 1787.  

The guest speaker for this year is Dr. Lee Remington (00).  An MSU alumna, Remington is currently a civil rights and Constitutional law attorney and assistant professor of political science and director of the pre-law program at Bellarmine University. Remington has spearheaded an effort to reopen the murder case of Alberta Jones, Louisville’s first black female prosecutor, who died in 1965 at the age of 34.  

 Activities planned include:  
  • Sept. 17 - guest speaker Dr. Lee Remington, "’The ‘War on Technology’ Is the Only War You Should Be Worried About: Cyber Warfare, Privacy, and Our Fragile Democracy", Rader Hall Room 112, 5:30 p.m.  
  • Sept. 18 – faculty and student reading of the U.S. Constitution, Little Bell Tower, 4:30 p.m.
  • Sept. 19 - panel discussion, "When Government Officials Run Afoul of the Law," moderated by Assistant Professor of Legal Studies Joe Dunman, Rader Hall Room 112, 5 p.m. Panel members will be Visiting Assistant Professor of Legal Studies David Grise and Assistant Rowan County Attorney Ashley Adkins.  
  • Sept. 20 - panel discussion, "Cultural Politics, Corporate Power, and Public Policy in the Age of Trump," moderated by Professor of Global and Interdisciplinary Studies Ric Caric, Rader Hall Room 112, 7 p.m. Panel members will be Professor of Geography and Global Studies Royal Berglee and Government Professor Michael Hail, Minority Academic Services Coordinator Cory Clark and MSU student Austin Curnutte.  
The programs are free and open to the public.
