He has authored and co-authored several peer-reviewed articles and two book chapters on large and small animal reproduction. Prater serves as faculty advisor to pre-veterinary medicine students and the Pre-Vet club and has served as chair of the Department of Agricultural Sciences. Prater teaches veterinary technology classes at the Derrickson Agricultural Complex, MSU’s 250-acre farm.

“I was truly shocked and humbled to receive this award,” Prater said.

This adds to a long list of awards and recognitions for Prater. In 2006, he was named the Veterinarian of the Year by the KVMA, and he also received the Outstanding Senior Teacher Award from the American Association of Colleges of Agriculture and Renewable Resources. In 2008, Prater earned the Morehead State University Distinguished Teacher Award.
