Flute Day set for Nov. 3

Morehead State University Flute Day will be Saturday, Nov. 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Baird Music Hall.

Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. A special guest artist recital with Dr. Karen McLaughlin Large will take place at 11 a.m. in Duncan Recital Hall. Assistant Professor of Flute Karen McLaughlin Large teaches flute lessons, flute ensemble, low flutes, Baroque flute, and Wind and Percussion Pedagogy at Florida State University’s College of Music. Large previously served as Associate Professor of Flute and Music Theory at Kansas State University. She enjoys performing in concerto, solo, chamber and large ensemble settings. She plays regularly with Traverso Colore: Baroque Flute Ensemble, Tornado Alley Flutes, and the Florida Flute Orchestra.

Flutists will have the opportunity to attend performances, workshops and ensemble sessions on Flute Day, including: 
  •  Beginners and band directors embouchure clinic led by Allyson Rawlings. 
  •  Flute KMEA all-state audition workshop led by Dr. Ellen Johnson Mosley. 
  •  Visit our vendors.   
  •  Get a free headshot. 
  •  Play in a flute choir reading session. 
The event is free and open to the public.
