Nursing student receives Dr. Don and Alta Blair Family Scholarship

benjamin-hutinson-(1).jpgThe Morehead State University Foundation has announced the establishment of the Dr. Don and Alta Blair Family Scholarship Endowment. The 2018-19 scholarship recipient is Benjamin Hutchinson. Hutchinson, a native of Morehead, is a freshman majoring in nursing and the scholarship’s first-ever award recipient.

The Blair family has a profound history with Morehead State University and the study of medicine. Dr. Donald Blair (62) attended the Breckinridge Training School and later earned his Bachelor of Science degree from MSU. Alta Blair is a retired member of the nursing faculty. Many other family members have also attended MSU.

The Blair family’s affinity for MSU led them to establish an endowment to create scholarships for students from Rowan County. The couple established the scholarship in 2017 and has continued to grow the fund over the past two years, ensuring that the contributions will be invested through the MSU Foundation. This endowment will ensure awards are made annually for years to come.

“I am honored to have been selected as the first recipient of the Blair Family Scholarship. Having this family support me to follow my dreams is a blessing,” Hutchinson said. “As I prepare to join the medical field as a nurse, it truly is a great feeling knowing I have financial support behind me. I will forever be grateful for the kindness and generosity of the Blair Family.”

This scholarship was established as part of the Soar to New Heights Scholarship Campaign.
