Andy and Debbie Prefontaine Scholarship Endowment established
The Morehead State University Foundation has announced the establishment of the Andy and Debbie Prefontaine Scholarship Endowment. The endowment will provide scholarships to assist in the recruitment and retention of students beginning in the 2019-20 academic year.
Andy Prefontaine (71) and his wife, Debbie, have been avid supporters of MSU for years, donating resources and volunteering their time to encourage other alumni to give back and support the University. As a student, Andy was a member of the MSU ROTC program’s first commissioned graduating class and served as the last president of the Aquila club before the social organization became the national fraternal organization Pi Kappa Alpha. After graduating from MSU, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army and went on the become a successful entrepreneur, founding a number of home, property and advertising businesses. A 2016 MSU Alumni Hall of Fame inductee, Andy has also served as a member of the MSU Foundation Board of Trustees.
Andy and Debbie hope that this general scholarship endowment fund will change many lives at Morehead State.
“Some students would not even be able to attend MSU without a scholarship, and that’s why it’s important,” Andy said. “I’ve been very fortunate and if life gives you good fortune, you really should pay it back. It should be a part of your life.”
In honor of Andy and Debbie’s charitable commitment, two spaces in the newly renovated Adron Doran University Center (ADUC) are adorned with their name: the Prefontaine Tower and the Prefontaine Pub. Prefontaine Tower is located at the northernmost entrance of the ADUC expansion and the Prefontaine Pub is located on the first floor just past the tower entrance.
This scholarship endowment was established as part of the Soar to New Heights Scholarship Campaign.
