West Liberty student receives Morgan County memorial scholarship

Sparkman-250-300.jpgThe Morehead State University Foundation has announced that Chloe Sparkman is the recipient of the Morgan County Memorial Scholarship. Sparkman is a freshman from West Liberty.

The scholarship was established to honor the memories of Christopher Dane Frederick (97), Bruce Herdman (78), and Connie Herdman (96) of Morgan County.

Frederick was a graduate of Morgan County High School and Morehead State University, and received his law degree from the University of Kentucky School of Law. He was a practicing attorney in West Liberty and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.

Bruce Herdman served as the director of Downing Hall and as an assistant coach at MSU. He was also an assistant principal and football coach at Morgan County High School.

Connie Herdman served as the secretary at Morgan County High School.

The scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a degree in pre-law, biology, biomedical science or education. Sparkman, a biomedical sciences major, plans to attend the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry to specialize in orthodontics. After dental school, she hopes to return to Eastern Kentucky to benefit her community.

“From a financial standpoint, scholarship support has a significant impact on my college experience,” says Sparkman. “The scholarship really helps me pursue my education.”

This scholarship was established as part of the Soar to New Heights Scholarship Campaign.
