Craft Academy students participate in Posters-at-the-Capitol

Students from Morehead State’s Craft Academy for Excellence in Science and Mathematics presented their research to Kentucky lawmakers and education administrators during High School Posters-at-the-Capitol, on Wednesday, Feb. 20, and collegiate Posters-at-the-Capitol, on Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort.  

Six Craft Academy students presented posters at the high school event, which highlights academic research conducted by high school students from across the Commonwealth. Student presenters included:

Sydney Winters of Catlettsburg, Casey Davis of Lexington, Garrett Flynn of Brooksville and Haylee Winters of Catlettsburg; faculty mentor Dr. Ahmad Hassan, associate professor of management; “Reclamation of Unused Coal Fields through Solar Gardens.”

Haylee Winters of Catlettsburg and Ryelle Browning of Richmond; faculty mentor Dr. Timothy Hare, professor of anthropology; “The Effect of Erosion Structures on Triplett Creek from the Fall of 2016, 2017 and 2018.”

Vaibhav Vinukonda of Louisville; no faculty mentor; “Creating a Device to Help Blind People Cross the Street.”  

Presenting research at the collegiate Posters-at-the-Capitol were:

Lori Porter of LaGrange; faculty mentor Dr. Thomas Pannuti, professor of astrophysics and space science; “XMM-Newton and VLA Observations of the Galactic Supernova Remnants G5.9+3.1, and G32.4+0.1.”

Sydney Gordon of Lexington; faculty mentors Dr. Michael Fultz, professor of biology and Claudett Edie; “Inhibition Efficiency of Lactobacillus acidophilus Bacteria on Candida albicans Growth.”
