Equestrian team members compete in Utah

Rudy PohlabelnTwo members of the Morehead State Western Saddle Equestrian Team traveled to Utah State University March 16 for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) semifinals, the last step for western riders in qualifying for nationals.

Rudy Pohlabeln, a freshman from Edgewood, won Reserve Champion in Individual Intermediate Horsemanship, and is qualified for the IHSA Nationals, May 2-5 in Syracuse, New York. Pohlabeln said he is proud to be representing the Eagles at nationals.

“It feels odd representing my team at such a high level because as a freshman I wasn’t expecting to make it this far, but it also makes it feel like a bigger deal being a freshman,” he said.

Sydnee Barker, a junior from Frankfurt, Ohio, competed in the Individual Open Horsemanship class. Her first ride earned her a second ride in the finals, where she placed ninth overall.
