Morehead recognized as one of Kentucky’s safest cities
Morehead State University is consistently ranked as one of the safest campuses in the Commonwealth and the nation, and is located in one of Kentucky’s safest cities.
SafeWise, a security company that creates home security products and provides resources for automobile, home and family safety, recently released its fifth annual Safest Cities report and named Morehead to its list of the 20 Safest Cities in Kentucky for 2019.

Morehead Mayor Laura White-Brown said she is honored for the city to be recognized and said the city’s increased level of safety has come through increased effort.
“The Morehead Police Department (MPD) has focused on an initiative to educate the public on reporting crime along with increased patrol,” she said. “The MPD has created a sense of omnipresence, which helps ensure safety for our entire community.”
The city of Morehead is home to MSU, which was recently ranked 18th in the 2018 Safest College Campuses in the U.S. list compiled by the National Council for Home Safety and Security. The University is dedicated to the safety of its students. The MSU Police Department is available 24 hours a day and offers additional security through the LiveSafe App and Eagle Alerts safety and weather notifications by text message and email.
