MSU instructor’s documentary to air on KET

Steve Middleton, instructor of mass communication at Morehead State, will have his documentary “The Show Starts After Dark” air on Kentucky Educational Television (KET) this summer. The documentary explores the last seven drive-in theaters in Kentucky and the people who operate them.   

This is Middleton’s eighth documentary to air on KET and 12th documentary overall. Currently, he has five active documentaries airing on the Kentucky channel.  

Middleton said, “When I produce documentaries, I want to find people I was around as a kid, people that are good storytellers and interesting. I like to tell somebody’s story, especially someone we may not think about or know.”
 
Middleton was assisted by convergent media students Gabe Osborne (18) of Glencoe and Clay Smith, a senior from Hagerhill. Dr. John Modaff, MSU professor of speech, provided some of the music as well as recorded Middleton’s narration at his studio. Additional music was recorded by David Austin Tackett (18), a traditional music major from Flemingsburg.  

“One of the amazing things about [the convergent media] major is that we are a major in the arts, but you also learn a trade,” said Middleton. “It’s real. It’s tangible. So, it's great for students to get outside of the classroom and get that experience.”

Middleton received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from MSU. He joined the faculty at MSU in 2008.
