MSU Opera presents ‘Sun, Moon, and Stars’ at the Star Theater

Morehead State University’s Space Science Center is usually where students study the cosmos, but it will soon play host to a shining showcase of student vocal performers.

MSU Opera will present “Sun, Moon, and Stars” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at the Star Theater in the Space Science Center. The event is free and open to the public and seating is limited.

The event is a collaboration between MSU Opera and Space Science Center. The musical and vocal talent will be accompanied by a laser show presented by Star Theater student artists. All music is centered on celestial themes and includes a variety of musical styles. Featured selections include solos and small ensembles from several operas, popular musical theatre selections and pieces from notable classical composers. The show will also include the world premiere of “Stardust,” a song composed by Tristan Hinkle, an MSU senior from Barbourville.

William Murphy serves as pianist and guest soloists are baritone Dr. Eric Brown, assistant professor of music and soprano Amanda Balltrip, a professional singer and former student of director of MSU Opera Dr. Roma Prindle. MSU Space Science Center students working the program are Savanna Booten, senior from Huntington, West Virginia; Alanna Cavins, junior from Morehead; and Sarah Norris, graduate student from Morehead.
