BFA art show opens April 24
The 2019 MSU Department of Art and Design’s Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) exhibition will open with a reception Wednesday, April 24, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Golding-Yang Art Gallery in the Claypool-Young Art Building. The exhibition runs April 24-May 8 and features the works of seniors in the BFA program who will graduate in May or who graduated in December.
There are approximately 75 pieces in the exhibit, representing the work of 10 artists. Artwork featured in the exhibit includes graphic design, digital prints, photography, painting, ceramics and sculpture. Gallery Director Melissa Yungbluth said the exhibit helps students prepare to enter the creative workforce.
“It is a way for them to have a full body of work and all of the parts of a professional artist portfolio in place for when they graduate and have to decide to work or go on to graduate school,” she said. “They are working out their ideas with the guidance of the faculty who are working established artists.”
The opening reception for the exhibit will feature refreshments and live music and is free and open to the public.
“It’s a culmination of all the hard work they have done over the past 4 to 5 years. It’s a celebration and a wonderful thing to see,” Yungbluth said.
