Morehead State TRIO students win regional competitions

trio1_500px.jpgStudents from MSU’s Educational Talent Search (ETS) and Upward Bound (UB) programs competed in Atlanta at Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (SAEOPP) Regional Student Initiatives Competitions, held Saturday, March 30. During the academic competitions, the students competed in a round robin fashion. answering questions in the fields of mathematics, science, language arts, humanities and current events. 
 
Educational Talent Search students participated in High Q (quick recall) competitions. The team was comprised of four students: Gabbi Hill and Nicholas Frizzell, both from Bath County High school, Marcus Leavitt from Johnson Central High School and Brandon Hampton from Morgan County High School.  
 
trio2_500px-(1).jpgThe MSU ETS team competed against teams from South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi. The team competed in five straight rounds of competition and won with a record of 4-1.  
 
MSU Upward Bound student Gavin Moran from Fleming County High School competed in the Scholar’s Bowl as a member of the Kentucky Allstar team. The team was comprised of six students representing different UB programs across the state of Kentucky.  

 
The UB students competed in six straight rounds of competition and were undefeated. None of the other teams came within 100 points of their score.
