Music Faculty Showcase set for April 17
Faculty from Morehead State’s Department of Music, Theater and Dance will perform “The Wild Called Maxx” at a faculty showcase on Wednesday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m. in Duncan Recital Hall inside Baird Music Hall.
Performers will include:
- Lori Baruth, associate professor of music, bass clarinet.
- Russ Zokaites, visiting assistant professor of music, bass trombone.
- Gina Pezzoli, lecturer, cello.
- Ryan McGillicuddy, visiting assistant professor of music, bass.
- Will Murphy, instructor of music, piano.
- Brian Mason, professor of music, drums.
- Eliza Eaches, a senior music education major from Wheelersburg, Ohio, vocalist.
- DuWayne Dale, assistant professor of music and associate director of bands, conductor.
The 60-minute work is for a mixed chamber ensemble, narrator and storybook and merges music with narration and illustration. The music is a mixture of genres including pop, rock, jazz and original works of new music. The faculty showcase will be the third performance of the piece, and Russ Zokaites said previous performances have been well received.
“Performances of the work have each been an overwhelming success due to the incorporation of visual art elements, multiple musical genres, and a narrative that is appealing to all ages,” he said.
The group plans to perform the piece again at the International Trombone Festival, July 10-14 at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
