Commercial Bank of West Liberty Scholarship established
The Morehead State University Foundation has announced the establishment of the Commercial Bank of West Liberty Scholarship, a fund to benefit MSU students. The scholarship’s first recipient is Chandler Basham, an incoming freshman and a 2019 graduate of Morgan County High School (MCHS).
Basham was a member of the MCHS academic team and soccer team, where he made the All-Area team. He was committed to community service and has participated in several fundraisers and helped provide aid after a tornado hit West Liberty in 2012. Basham plans to major in computer science and work to use technology to benefit others.
“My interest in the field of computer science may have started like any other person’s interest, but I am willing to go the extra mile for my dream,” Basham said.
Chartered in 1910 as a state-chartered bank, Commercial Bank has been a part of the community of West Liberty for over 100 years. The bank prides itself on being locally owned, pushing technological innovation and meeting the needs of the community.
“Commercial Bank of West Liberty has prided itself on being a great corporate citizen throughout the years,” said Brock A. Litteral (94), the bank’s president. “We feel like this scholarship is another way of giving back to the communities we serve and cherish. Our hope is that this scholarship promotes the educational growth and future success of a deserving student.”
Applicants must be enrolled as either a full-time undergraduate or graduate student. There is a minimum cumulative GPA requirement of 3.0 and the scholarship is renewable as long as criteria are met.
This scholarship was established as part of the Soar to New Heights Scholarship Campaign.
