Toy receives Katie Fryman Memorial Scholarship

The Morehead State University Foundation has announced the recipient of the Katie Fryman Memorial Scholarship, a fund to benefit students at Morehead State University. The student receiving the award is Skylar McKenna Toy, a freshman majoring in business management from Owingsville.

Toy is a 2019 graduate of Rowan County Senior High School (RCSHS). During high school, she was involved in the Beta Club, the Gifted and Talented Program and was a member of the varsity volleyball team. She is also active with the Maysville Crosspoint Community Church Youth Group.

“I try my best to live every day to its fullest and spread kindness to everyone,” Toy said. “I want to make an impact on my family, friends and in the community just like Katie did during her time with us. Receiving this scholarship is a true honor.”

The Katie Fryman Memorial Scholarship was established in 2013 in honor of Katie Fryman, who passed away that same year. Fryman was a student at Rowan County Senior High School, an avid supporter of RCSHS sports, loved going to school and being with her friends. The recipient must be a full-time MSU incoming freshman and RCSHS graduate with a high school GPA of 3.5 or above.

“We are pleased to have been able to award the 2019 Katie Fryman Memorial Scholarship to Skylar Toy. Skylar demonstrates qualities in a person and student that the selection committee looks for when awarding this scholarship,” said Ethan Fryman (12), Katie’s brother. “We wish Skylar nothing but the best of luck in her future endeavors.”
