Watkins receives Linda Kay Donovan Memorial Scholarship

The Morehead State University Foundation has announced the recipient of the Linda Kay Donovan Memorial Scholarship, a fund to benefit students at MSU. The student receiving the award is Tabbitha Watkins, an incoming freshman majoring in art education. Watkins is a 2019 graduate of Fleming County High School.

"My future career goal is to be an art teacher. I have personally found art to be therapeutic in moments of tension or stress,” Watkins said. “I wish to encourage others to utilize art as a way to express themselves. I am grateful for this scholarship as it will help me pursue my dreams."

The Linda Kay Donovan Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of the late Linda Donovan of Cedar Lake, who passed away due to complications from cancer in 2009. Donovan is a 1965 graduate of Fleming County High School and later earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from MSU in 1968. Upon graduation, she briefly worked for three years teaching sixth grade for Mason County Public Schools. In 1971, she began working at Ewing Elementary School, teaching for 11 years prior to becoming principal for nine years. She moved to Mason County’s central office to become an instructional supervisor in 1991, later taking on an additional role as special education coordinator before retiring in 2001.

Applicants for the Linda Kay Donovan Memorial Scholarship must be full-time MSU students with a high school GPA of at least 3.0 and an ACT score that meets Teacher Education Program admission requirements. Preference is given to residents of Fleming County and students who have participated in Future Educators of America activities at their high school or at MSU.
