MSU student interns at NASA
MSU senior Luke Hoard from Crestwood had the opportunity to apply what he learned on campus in the real world this summer through an internship at NASA.
Hoard, a space science major, served as a Space Communications and Navigations (SCaN) intern at NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. He worked on preliminary payload hardware selection and design for a constellation mission involving CubeSats. Also, he worked on modeling and simulations of several experiments that will be conducted aboard the CubeSats.
“Interning for NASA has been a very eye-opening experience,” Hoard said. “For someone who has only had experience through academia, this internship has taught me a lot about the professional landscape. I have learned a lot about the hierarchy of positions and the gears each of those positions churn. The project I am working on perfectly overlaps the lessons from my classes back at Morehead State. The way NASA develops satellites is the same way my University teaches it to us.”
MSU offers one of only a handful of space systems engineering undergraduate programs in the nation. For more information about space science opportunities at MSU, visit www.moreheadstate.edu/study/spacesystemsengineering, email phes@moreheadstate.edu or call 606-783-2224.
