Mesa-Gaido chosen to exhibit at KMAC Museum’s Triennial exhibition

Elizabeth Mesa-Gaido, professor of art at Morehead State University, is showcasing her talents alongside Kentucky artists through being selected for the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft (KMAC) Museum’s inaugural Triennial exhibition, “Contemporary Art of the Commonwealth: Crown of Rays,” in Louisville. The exhibit will run through Dec. 1, 2019.  

“It has been a professional goal of mine to exhibit at the KMAC Museum ever since I moved to Kentucky, so I was thrilled when I was selected by a distinguished panel of art professionals from the region to participate in KMAC’s first Triennial exhibit,” Mesa-Gaido said. “It is an honor to represent MSU and the Department of Art & Design, present my work alongside my fellow exhibitors and be one of 20 artists representing contemporary art in Kentucky.”  

For the first KMAC Triennial, 221 artists submitted portfolios who spent formative years living in Kentucky. Mesa-Gaido was one of the artists selected to present representing diverse practices, participate and develop new work for the exhibit.  

Her two works on display, “Cuban American Piñatas” and the “Then and Now Series,” combine multiple media (sculpture, textile, prints, photography) and consist of various pieces. For “Cuban American Piñatas,” she expanded the installation specifically for the Triennial by creating five new sculptures this past summer. Both bodies of work have been displayed during the annual Art & Design Faculty Exhibition in the Golding-Yang Art Gallery.
