MSU farm hosts LAND forum with Ag Commissioner Ryan Quarles
Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles visited Morehead State’s Derrickson Agricultural Complex Tuesday, Sept. 17, to help area farmers and businesses find ways to strengthen ties between agriculture and manufacturing to increase income and create jobs.
The visit was one of seven stops in the third annual series of Linking Agriculture for Networking and Development (LAND) forums, held at locations across the state.
While visiting the farm, Quarles discussed economic growth through agriculture and manufacturing. He emphasized the importance of agriculture in Eastern Kentucky and noted MSU’s role in research and instruction in agricultural technology.
Several area agricultural businesses were on hand to highlight their products and the connections between growing agricultural products and how manufacturing technology can improve efficiency and grow capacity.
The forums are sponsored by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and the Kentucky Association of Manufacturers. The KDA and the KAM are facilitating the forums with the financial support of the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund and other regional sponsors.
