Tubafest 2019 begins Sept. 23

Morehead State University’s Department of Music, Theatre and Dance kicks off its annual Tubafest concert series on Monday, Sept. 23. 

The series is held every fall and features instruments in the tuba family. The event starts with a masterclass with Dr. Gail Robertson, assistant professor of tuba and euphonium/jazz at the University of Central Arkansas. The class will be held Monday, Sept. 23, at 3 p.m. in room 117 of the Baird Music Hall.   

Robertson, along with MSU Professor of Music Dr. Stacy Baker, make up the group SymbiosisDuo, will hold a recital on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Duncan Recital Hall in Baird Music Hall. They will also perform with the Cave Run Symphony Orchestra on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 3 p.m. at the Morehead Conference Center. 

Other Tubafest events include: 

  • Oktoberfest: Saturday, Oct. 5, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Sawstone Brewing Company on Main Street. The MSU Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble will perform under Baker’s direction. Guest performers include Robertson and MSU Professor of Music Dr. Lori Baruth on clarinet.
  • Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble Fall Concert: Sunday, Nov. 17, at 3 p.m.in the Duncan Recital Hall in Baird Music Hall.
  • Hometown Holiday: Sunday, Dec. 7, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at CoffeeTree Books on Main Street. The MSU Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble will perform as part of the City of Morehead’s annual Hometown Holiday Festival.
