Seven MSU students win KAS competition

Seven students from Morehead State were recognized for their work during the Kentucky Academy of Science (KAS) Undergraduate Research Competition. The winners were announced at the KAS meeting held Nov. 1 and 2 at Berea College.

"It is exciting to see so many of our student scientists present their work at the state-wide meeting of the Kentucky Academy of Science,” said Dr. Jennifer Birriel, MSU professor of physics. “It is particularly gratifying to see that seven MSU students were recognized for their hard work by receiving special recognition as awardees of the undergraduate student competition."

Students who placed in the competition were:
  • Jessey Anderson, a physics major from Carlisle, second place, physics and astronomy oral presentation.
  • Hannah Brewer, a biological sciences/MSUTeach major from Pine Ridge, third place, science education presentation.
  • Katheryn Gallenstein, a psychology major from Winchester, first place, science education oral presentation.
  • Christopher Leadford, a mathematics major from West Liberty, third place, mathematics poster presentation.
  • Megan Pauley, a mathematics/MSUTeach major from Lexington, second place, mathematics oral presentation.
  • Will Pitts, a mathematics major from Georgetown, third place, mathematics oral presentation.
  • Austin Spradlin, a veterinary science major from South Shore, second place, zoology poster presentation.
