Chi Omega Follies fundraiser grants wish to an Eagle legacy child

The annual Chi Omega Follies student talent show at Morehead State University raises money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Thanks to talented Eagle students and support from the campus and the local community, the organization was able to grant a child’s wish.

This year’s wish child, Abby Achtermann, has a special connection to MSU. She is an Eagle legacy. Her parents, Brent Achtermann (06) and Brooke Achtermann (03), are both MSU Alumni. Brooke is a member of the Epsilon Theta Chapter of Chi Omega and Brent is a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity at MSU. Both are actively involved with their respective organization’s alumni groups and support the MSU Alumni Association, and Brooke currently serves as the Chi Omega Epsilon Theta Chapter’s marketing advisor.

“As a graduate of Morehead State University, it was great to come back to campus and experience the generosity of the student organizations that participated in Chi Omega Follies,” Brooke said. “My husband and I will always remember this evening and we are still overwhelmed by the love and support that this campus community has given us. Abby now has the legacy of being a Make-A-Wish kid and that is in all thanks to Chi Omega and MSU.”

The sold-out Chi Omega Follies raised over $10,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Thanks to this support, Abby and the Achtermann family experienced the trip of a lifetime. The family traveled to Orlando and Kissimmee, Florida, to experience popular tourist attractions like Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World and Give Kids the World Village, a nonprofit theme park that provides cost-free vacations to Make-A-Wish children and their families. Abby got the opportunity to meet the Disney characters, participate in dance parties and parades, and had the option to eat ice cream at any time of the day. She was also able to enjoy many rides that were wheelchair accessible.
