MSU Concert Choir hosts Chili Cook-Off dinner and concert
The Morehead State University Concert Choir is hosting its a Chili Cook-Off dinner and concert on Thursday, Feb. 27, at the First Baptist Church, 123 East Main Street in Morehead. Dinner is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. with the concert at 7:30 p.m.
The all-you-care-to-eat chili dinner will include peanut butter sandwiches, crackers, tortilla chips, dessert, and tea or lemonade. If you bring a pot of chili, you will receive a free ticket.
The annual Morehead State University Winter Choral Showcase Concert follows at 7:30 p.m., and admission is free. MSU’s University Chorus, Chamber Singers, Vocal Jazz Ensemble and the Black Gospel Ensemble will join the Concert Choir for the evening concert. The directors of the ensembles are Dr. Roosevelt Escalante, associate professor of music and director of Black Gospel Ensemble, and Dr. Greg Detweiler, professor of music and director of choral studies. The concert will also feature pianist William Murphy, instructor of music.
“The chili dinner has proven to be very popular with the town/gown community and we have made it an annual event,” Detweiler said. “We hope you will join us and, even better, compete.”
Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students. Children ages six and under are admitted free. Tickets can be purchased from choir members or reserved.
