Student housing wins national and regional awards
Morehead State’s Office of Student Housing is celebrating winning multiple regional and national awards from the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) in 2019.
Student employee Lori Ann Dobson, a senior social work major from Louisville, and Hall Director Michael Watts won national awards for student and professional staff, bringing MSU’s total for national NRHH awards to seven. The office also won 24 regional awards, including Community Service Program, Educational Program, Passive Program, Residence Life Professional Staff, and Student.
The office is also currently ranked third in the competition for the NRHH OTM Traveling Award. The Traveling OTM Cup recognizes the institution that accumulates the most points over an award year, which runs from April to March of the following year. Points are given for campus, regional and national wins. The school with the most points takes home the cup.
“It’s important because it showcases not only the good work being done across the country but also builds in a culture of recognition to the campus. It’s a way for member institutions to be able to celebrate successes on both a student, staff, and campus partner level that benefit the residential experience on the campus,” said Alan Rucker, director of housing and residence education at MSU. “Our standing currently shows that we are doing amazing things in the halls. Both the quantity of regional and national OTMs and the quality of all the submissions are proof positive that living in the residence halls at MSU makes for a meaningful and meaningfully authentic experience for our students.”
“I am so incredibly proud of our staff and students for showcasing what’s happening here at MSU in our residence halls. It’s always a great time to be an Eagle, but now is an especially awesome time to be an Eagle in our residence halls,” Rucker added.
Rucker encourages faculty, staff and students to notify the Office of Student Housing if they see positive events or individuals doing good work in the residence community so it can be recognized.
