Donors step up to MSU’s 24-Hour Giving Challenge

Friends and supporters of Morehead State University got the chance to show their love for the institution and its students on Valentine’s Day. MSU hosted the 7th Annual 24-Hour Giving Challenge last month on Feb. 14.

The theme for this year’s challenge was #ShareTheLove. An anonymous donor pledged to donate $44,000 if 500 donors contributed during the 24-hour time frame. Local businesses, including CoffeeTree Books and Fuzzy Duck Coffee Shop, and Sawstone Brewing Company also sponsored events in conjunction with the giving challenge.

The event exceeded expectations. There were 539 donors from 31 states that contributed $42,972. Combined with the $44,000 anonymous donor pledge, a total of $86,972 was raised to help current and future Eagles. This year, alumni ranging from the Class of 1956 to current Eagles gave gifts to reach this goal and Gamma Phi Beta Sorority won the fundraisers Greek Challenge for both the highest number of donors and the highest percentage of alumni participation.

“This is always such an exciting day every year. It’s really great to see so many alumni and friends come together, year after year, to help us meet our goal. This giving day initiative has raised nearly $500,000 combined over our seven challenges.” said Jessi Ferguson, alumni and digital engagement manager. “We are so grateful for the continued support.”
