Walker Family Scholarship Endowment established

Willi Walker Scholarship Recognition PictureThe Morehead State University Foundation has announced the establishment of the Walker Family Scholarship Endowment, a fund to benefit Morehead State University students.

The scholarship was established by MSU alumna Dr. Wilma “Willi” Walker. Walker graduated from MSU with a bachelor’s degree and went on to the University of Kentucky to complete her master’s and doctoral degrees. Upon graduation, she spent her career as a professor at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU), where she founded EKU’s aviation program.

Walker, along with her mother, father and brother, are all MSU alumni. To celebrate the Walker family’s heritage at MSU, she created the Walker Family Scholarship Endowment to support scholarships for students who are graduates of West Carter High School in Walker’s hometown of Olive Hill, Kentucky. During the Soar to New Heights Scholarship Campaign, Walker has grown her scholarship endowment by contributing $80,000.

“MSU is a very important school for Eastern Kentucky. It has provided education for a lot of people who would’ve never gone to college otherwise,” Walker said. “I set up a scholarship fund at the MSU Foundation to support students from the western part of Carter County in order for them to have the same kind of opportunities I had.”

Students interested in applying to this scholarship, along with other privately funded scholarships managed by the MSU Foundation, should visit the online scholarship application at https://moreheadstate.awardspring.com/.
