Stokes Family Scholarship established

Paula and Paul Stokes PictureThe Morehead State University Foundation has announced the establishment of the Stokes Family Scholarship, a fund to benefit Morehead State University students.

Paul R. Stokes (76) and Paula Y. Stokes (78) created the scholarship. Paula earned an associate, two bachelor’s degrees and two master’s degrees, all from MSU. Following her public-school teaching career, she taught for five years in the Volgenau College of Education. Paul earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from MSU. Their children, Kevin, Matthew (07) and Anna (11), all attended MSU

Paul and Paula recognize that cost can be an impediment for students, especially when there aren't financial resources available. They want to help students when these expenses create an impediment to completing their degree, continuing their education or securing employment.

"We recognize the roadblock test costs can be for the success of MSU students and are happy to do what we can for the continued success of our students,” Paul said. “If family and friends of MSU want to assist current students, University Development can and will help you create a vehicle to provide the assistance. Once an Eagle, always an Eagle.”

The fund will be used for retention and degree completion with preference given to students who have a need for assistance with the cost of academic testing. This testing fees could include tests necessary to remain a student at MSU or to gain admission to graduate degree programs and for professional licensing. This could include payment for ACT, GRE, LSAT, MSAT and obtaining a professional license such as the nursing licensure test or the Praxis test.

Students in need of testing support should contact their advisor or a staff member from the Office of Advising and Retention or the Testing Center at MSU.
