Burke receives McBride Tutoring Award

Libby BurkeLibby Burke, a senior from Alton, New Hampshire, is the recipient of this year’s Molly McBride Tutoring Excellence Award.

The award is given annually to a tutor who demonstrates a superior level of tutoring skills and caring for MSU students. It is named in honor of Molly McBride, a Tutoring and Learning Center (TLC) tutor who was killed in a car crash in May 2013.

The TLC tutors are undergraduates who help their fellow students through tutoring mathematics, business, sciences, writing, foreign languages and other subjects. This semester, the Tutoring and Learning Center made a successful pivot to increase online tutoring due to COVID-19.

“I always strive to help others. This love of helping others achieve things they once were not able to on their own is what drove me to pursue a career in education, as well as become a part of the MSU Tutoring and Learning Center,” Burke said. “I have loved every second of my work as a tutor and have learned so much from every student I’ve met."

Burke is a moderate to severe disabilities and middle grades mathematics education major. With more than 600 appointments in her tutoring career, she tutors her fellow students in math, English, communication, education, Praxis and more.
