Optimist Founders Club of Morehead Scholarship announces 2020 recipients
The Morehead State University Foundation has announced the Optimist Club of Morehead Founders Scholarship recipients for the 2020-21 school year. The recipients are Kaleb Sergent and Cedric Meadows.
Sergent is a graduate of Rowan County Senior High School in Morehead. He is planning to major in elementary education and hopes to become a kindergarten teacher. Meadows is a graduate of Lakeside Christian Academy in Morehead. He is planning to major in business administration with goals to start his own business.
The scholarship, founded in 2017, is a memorial to the founding members of the Optimist Club of Morehead, whose main objective is to benefit the youth of the community. It was founded in 1964 by a group of business and educational leaders of Morehead.
“The creation of the Founders Scholarship was a means for our club to recognize those individuals who established the Club,” said Optimist Club of Morehead President Bill Redwine (79), who is also the former assistant vice president of auxiliary services at MSU. “Several of the original members were campus leaders and it’s only logical that we recognize them in this manner.”
Scholarship recipient criteria include being graduating seniors who are residents of Rowan County, attaining at least a 3.0 GPA combined in their junior and senior years of high school.
