MSU mourns death of Dr. William Green
Dr. William (Bill) C. Green passed away recently on July 11, 2020. Dr. Green was a longtime government/political science professor with a distinguished academic career.
He was the recipient of many recognitions, including MSU Distinguished Researcher Award, and Distinguished Political Scientist Award by the Kentucky Political Science Association. His body of research on Depo-Provera culminated in his book publication, Contraceptive Risk: The FDA, Depo-Provera, and the Politics of Experimental Medicine, published in 2017 by the prestigious New York University Press. In 2018, he received an invitation to donate his Depo-Provera research to the archives at the Arthur and Elizabeth Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America located in the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University. The Schlesinger Library is recognized as the premier library on the history of women in America. At the time in an interview with Dr. Green he stated, “I didn’t go to Harvard,” “but my FDA and Depo-Provera archive did.”
Dr. Green also established the Canadian Parliament Internship that has benefitted many MSU students personally, and professionally, over the years. After initiating this special international internship, he relentlessly and successfully advocated for financial support to assist students who otherwise would not have been able to participate in this exceptional opportunity.
