MSU Military Initiatives to host Suicide Awareness Walk

Morehead State University Military Initiatives is organizing a Suicide Awareness Walk that will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10. The 1.5-mile walk will begin in front of Lappin Hall and circle the campus. All participants will be required to observe social distancing guidelines.

The event was spearheaded by student-veteran organization Eagle Vets and was completely planned and led by MSU students, according to Dr. Silas Session, director of military initiatives at MSU. He said the student organizers wanted to plan an event in September since that month is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.

“It’s also an issue for the military but it’s a general thing. They want to bring attention to everybody,” Session said of the students who organized the Suicide Awareness Walk. “This is a student initiative and they really want the campus to get involved so we can make awareness of suicide to encourage people not to have any ideations or anything like that. I am proud of them."

Anyone interested in participating can sign up on the MSU Military Initiatives Facebook page (www.facebook.com/MoreheadStateEagleVets) or Instagram page (@MSU_EagleVets).
