Fall exhibit to hold virtual awards ceremony

The winners of the 21st Annual Mt. Sterling Juried Student Art Exhibition will be announced in a virtual ceremony Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m.

The show features 80 works of art from 45 MSU art and design students. The exhibition is hosted by the Gateway Regional Art Center in Mt. Sterling, but will be held digitally because the center is closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. The center will release the exhibition digitally on its website at www.grackentucky.org later this week. Links to the awards ceremony will be posted to The Golding-Yang Gallery Facebook page at www.facebook.com/GoldingYangArtGallery.

“I really appreciate working with the Gateway Arts Center to help move this exhibition online quickly instead of canceling it due to COVID-19,” said Melissa Yungbluth, instructor of art and design at MSU and director of the Golding-Yang Art Gallery in the Claypool-Young Art Building. “It is one of our most exciting shows each year because the students get to exhibit as a group outside of MSU’s Golding-Yang Art Gallery.”

For this year’s exhibit, jurors are Julia Finch, associate professor of art history, and Juanita Dixon, lecturer of art and design at MSU. Winners will be chosen in the following categories:
  • 3D Functional (pottery and jewelry)
  • 3D Sculptural
  • Drawing/Printmaking
  • Photography
  • Painting
Each category will have an honorable mention and first and second-place winners. There will also be a Best in Show winner selected. First-place, second place and Best in Show winners will receive cash prizes from the Department of Art and Design.
