MSU education professor, graduate student recognized by AECT

The Association for Educational Technology and Communications (AECT) recognized a doctoral candidate and a professor from Morehead State University’s Ernst and Sara Lane Volgenau College of Education.  

Dr. Christopher Miller, professor of education and director of MSU at Mt. Sterling, received the AECT Presidential Award. Hannah Digges Elliott, a doctoral candidate in MSU’s Educational Technology Leadership program, has been selected by AECT as a 2020 Lee W. Cochran Intern as part of the Addie Kinsinger Internship Program.  

Miller’s recognition and Elliott’s participation in the internship program were announced at the AECT International Convention, which occurred virtually from Nov. 2-7.   

The AECT Presidential Award acknowledges the contributions and works to the organization and the field at large. Typically nominated by the President for exceptional achievements during their tenure, these awards are approved by the Executive Committee. Miller was selected based on his recent initiative with Dr. Anthony Piña, associate provost for instruction and online learning at Sullivan University, to seek and establish a book series, “Leadership and Best Practices in Educational Technology Management,” with Brill | Sense Publishing. There are currently three book projects under contract focused on mentoring lessons learned and distance learning management and leadership. The first two books within the series are expected to be published in early 2021.  

The Lee W. Cochran Internship is one of the highest recognitions for graduate students and new professionals in the field. The Lee W. Cochran Interns will participate in the Addie Kinsinger Internship Program, designed to identify individuals with the significant potential to provide future leadership for AECT and in the broader field. Elliott is an instructional designer in the Center for Innovative Teaching & Learning at Western Kentucky University. Additionally, she is the AECT Graduate Student Assembly representative to the Systems Thinking & Change Division and the communications officer-elect for the AECT Graduate Student Assembly.   

During the convention, Elliott participated in a coordinated program of activities, including leadership development sessions, exclusive events with leaders from the association and the field, and selected association governance events. As a follow-up to the convention experience, interns will participate as members of the AECT Leadership Development Committee during the year leading up to and including the 2021 convention.
