Friends of Cave Run Fishing Tournament raises funds for scholarship endowment
Every May for the past 11 years, the Friends of Cave Run Association has hosted an annual fishing tournament to honor the memory of friends of the fishing community. In addition to being a unique memorial opportunity, the tournament also supports future generations of Morehead State University students.
The tournament organizers partnered with the MSU Foundation to create an endowment that will provide a lasting legacy through scholarship support. The Friends of Cave Run Association donates the tournament proceeds each year to grow the endowment.
The 2021 tournament took place on May 22 and 23. They hosted 90 boats and proceeds from this year’s tournament will be used to grow the endowment to the $50,000 level. Stokley’s Marine, a boat and boat supply business based in Nicholasville, also generously provides an annual contribution to fund five annual scholarships so the association can focus on endowment growth.
“The Friends of Cave Run Association look at this as more than just a fishing tournament. They look at this as preserving a legacy and honoring friends who meant so much to them,” said Jessi Ferguson, MSU Foundation staff and Friends of Cave Run Scholarship liaison. “They are a dedicated group of guys who are supporting future generations of students from our region.”
