Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble's Octubafest set for Oct. 2

Octubafest posterMorehead State's Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble presents its annual fall concert, Octubafest, Saturday, Oct. 2, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the Entertainment District at the corner of Main Street and Battson-Oates Drive.

The event will be dedicated to the Late Dr. Earle Louder, who founded the Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble at MSU. Dr. Stacy Baker, MSU professor of music and director of the ensemble, said she is pleased to continue Louder's tradition of having a fall concert.

"When I joined the faculty at MSU in the Fall of 1996, I learned (to my delight) that my predecessor, Dr. Earle Louder, had thoughtfully reserved a date on the Duncan Recital Hall calendar for Octubafest on Oct. 31 – Halloween," Baker said. "I have had the great honor and privilege to carry on Dr. Louder's legacy here at MSU over the past 26 years. Dr. Louder attended the event in 2019 and I am certain he will be with us in spirit on Oct. 2, 2021, as he remains forever in our hearts."

This year's concert will feature performances from the ensemble, as well as:
  • Dr. Lori Baruth, MSU professor of music-clarinet.
  • Dr. Brian Mason, MSU associate dean of the School of Creative Arts, professor of music and percussion coordinator.
  • Dr. Gail Robertson, associate professor of tuba and euphonium at the University of Central Arkansas.
  • Special MSU alumni guest performers.

The event is free and open to the public.

"It is a chance to relax in the beautiful fall weather, visit friends, and experience real community which we are all craving," Baker said. "We hope you will grab a lawn chair, dust off your lederhosen and join us!"
