Artist-curator Dr. Heidi Aishman presents lecture for aspiring artists at MSU

Independent curator and artist Dr. Heidi Aishman will be presenting a lecture for MSU art students and other aspiring artists. The talk will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, in room 111 of the Claypool-Young Art Building.

The lecture titled “A Road Map to Being an Exhibiting Artist” will discuss pathways to exhibiting in art galleries, entering work into shows, applying for grants and residencies, and will also offer advice regarding how to organize one's own exhibition. It will provide valuable insight on arts-based professional practices for students and community members who wish to know more about how to share their artwork with local, regional, national and international audiences.

Aishman is a photographer, arts activist and curator with more than 25 years of experience in the arts. She recently earned a Ph.D. in Curatorial Practice from the University of Reading. Aishman describes herself as "an independent curator with a focus on connecting groups or individuals with little access to the arts to established and emerging artists and arts institutions for collaborations, experiences and community building."

Dr. Robyn Moore, assistant professor of photography at MSU, first met Aishman in Boston when they were both students at the School Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University.

“Considering her extensive expertise in the arts, I felt that inviting her to MSU to give a lecture would really benefit our students and the entire community especially since we have not really had the benefit of visiting professionals for quite some time due to the pandemic,” Moore said. “Dr. Aishman's lecture will offer practical advice regarding the advancement of one's artwork and career for anyone interested in the arts."

Due to COVID-19 protocols, seating capacity will be limited to 30 and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The lecture will also be live streamed at Dr. Robyn Moore's personal WebEx room at https://moreheadstate.webex.com/meet/r.moore.
