MSU alumnus and regent Sanford Holbrook recognized as KEDC Superintendent of the Year

Regent Wayne Martin Sanford Superintendent of the Year PictureSanford Holbrook (Class of 1997, 2003, 2006), superintendent of the Robertson County School System, has been named Superintendent of the Year by the Kentucky Educational Development Corporation (KEDC).  

“I am humbled and honored to be recognized as the KEDC 2021 Superintendent of the Year,” Holbrook said. “I am fortunate to be part of a great team at Robertson County. My students give me my drive and passion to work hard at my job every day. The MSU Education Leadership Program provided me lifelong learning tools to be an effective superintendent and educator. “  

Holbrook earned three degrees from MSU: a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture – Vocational Education in 1997, a Master of Science in Career and Technical Education in 2003 and a Master of Arts in School Administration in 2006. Before serving as the superintendent of Robertson County Schools, Holbrook served as an assistant superintendent, area technology center (ATC) principal, finance and federal programs director, career and technical education (CTE) coordinator, and career and technology teacher. He received the Outstanding Community Leadership Award in 2017 from the Buffalo Trace Area Development District & Robertson County.  

He also serves as chair of the Kentucky Educational Development Corporation Board of Directors and Secretary of the Kentucky Interlocal School Transportation Association (KISTA) Board of Directors. He is a member of the Kentucky Association of School Superintendents (KASS), Kentucky Association of School Administrators (KASA) and Kentucky Education Association (KEA), as well as prior member of the Kentucky Soil and Water Commission from 2011-15.    

Holbrook has served on MSU’s Board of Regents since 2018. He was elected vice chair this year. 

KEDC is an organization that consists of 67 member districts statewide and is Kentucky’s oldest and largest educational cooperative. It provides educational support services to members, including technology wiring, special education support, and professional development opportunities.
