MSU mourns the death of Dr. Shane Shope
Dr. Shane Shope of Hillsboro, Ohio, associate professor of educational leadership at Morehead State, died Sunday, Nov. 14, at the age of 54.
Born May 23, 1967, he was the son of Sharon (Stebel) Cassidy and James “Jim” Shope. He began teaching at MSU in 2015. He taught primarily educational leadership courses for the Instructional Leadership program as well as the doctoral program. Prior to coming to MSU, Shope was employed for 22 years at the Lynchburg-Clay High School in Lynchburg, Ohio, as a teacher, principal, and superintendent of the Lynchburg-Clay School District.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by four children, Emily Kathleen Shope, Grace Elizabeth Shope, Logan David Henry Shope, and Avery Dawn Shope; his fiancé, Meghan Griffith and her two children, Tylar Corinne Griffith and Camden Joshua Griffith; a brother, Brandon (Teresa) Shope, a niece and a nephew.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, at the Hillsboro Church of Christ. Funeral service will follow at the Hillsboro Church of Christ. Burial will be in the Prospect Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Cleveland Clinic/Philanthropy Institute - Mellen Center, P.O. Box 931517, Cleveland, Ohio 44193.
