MSU students, staff recognized at state housing conference

Morehead State University was well-represented at the recent 2021 Kentucky Association of Housing Officers (KAHO) Annual Conference on Wednesday, Nov. 3, winning multiple awards and landing multiple Eagles on the organization's Governing Council.

Eden Jordan, a senior theatre and convergent media major from Vanceburg, was awarded a 2021 KAHO Outstanding Student Staff Award and the Kentucky Association of Residence Halls (KARH) Student of the Year. The Outstanding Student Staff Award is selected annually by a member institution's chief housing officer. It recognizes an undergraduate student staff member who goes above and beyond the positional expectations to make a difference for their campus and residents. The KARH Student of the Year is a statewide award given annually to students who demonstrate exemplary leadership and contribution within the halls and to KARH. Jordan currently serves the Office of Student Housing as student coordinator for administration and programming.

Emily Adam, area coordinator in the Office of Student Housing, was awarded a 2021 KAHO Service Award. Selected annually by a member institution's chief housing officer, the KAHO Service Award recognizes a staff member who has given outstanding service to the University.

Max Ammons, assistant vice president and dean of students, was awarded the 2021 KAHO Unbridled Spirit Award. This statewide award is presented annually for significant and lasting contribution and service to his or her institution while embodying an unbridled spirit in service for the betterment of his or her institution, state, region or the profession in general. Recipients have a demonstrated service record as a positive change agent in service to their students, colleagues and peers. Ammons, responsible for the functional areas of housing and residence education, counseling and health services, and disability services, also serves as MSU's chief conduct officer and was primarily responsible for the institution's COVID-19 response and protocols.

The organization appointed two MSU staff members to KAHO's Governing Council. Dr. Alan Rucker (Class of 2017, 2021), director of housing and residence education, began his term as the organization's president and Emily Adam was elected secretary.

"The continued legacy of MSU award winners and Governing Council members just shows what an excellent housing operation and residential experience is in place at Morehead State," Rucker said. "Getting recognized for that performance, both organizationally and individually through awards and leadership roles really demonstrates that consistent performance."

KAHO provides personal and professional growth opportunities for college and university housing and residence life officers across the Commonwealth of Kentucky. As the professional home for college and university housing staff, comprised of members from every institution with a housing operation, KAHO ensures unity, advocacy and resource sharing to cultivate professionalism, high standards and collaboration with other state agencies various professional organizations globally.
