Burley-Coal Art Contest returns to MSU

Hundreds of Eastern Kentucky high school students will have their artwork featured in the 2022 Burley-Coal High School Art Exhibition & Competition at the Golding-Yang Gallery in Morehead State's Claypool-Young Art Building Wednesday March 2, to Friday, March 11.   

There is no reception for this exhibition, but all are welcome to visit during open gallery hours, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The gallery will hold special hours on Saturday, March 5, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for family day.   

The exhibition will feature mixed media creations from art students throughout MSU's service region in Eastern Kentucky. Students from the following high schools will participate in the show:  
  • Allen Central  
  • Bath County  
  • Belfry  
  • Blazer  
  • Boyd County  
  • Fleming County  
  • Greenup County  
  • Lawrence County  
  • Lewis County  
  • Mason County  
  • Montgomery County  
  • Morgan County  
  • Paintsville  
  • Paul Blazer  
  • Perry County Central  
  • Pikeville  
  • Raceland-Worthington Independent  
  • Russell Independent  
  • West Carter 

"This is the future of art, or so we hope," said Melissa Yungbluth, instructor of art and director of the Golding-Yang Gallery. "For most, if not all, this is the first chance these budding artists have to exhibit their work in a formal gallery. It's a small taste of what their futures could be, and we are honored to be the regionally chosen gallery for the inaugural displaying of their work."

  • Best in Show 3-D.   

The jurors for the exhibit are the faculty of MSU's School of Art & Design.
