Costume shop sponsors Sew-a-Bear event

McKayla McMurtreyThe costume shop in Morehead State’s theatre program is sponsoring an event that lets students, faculty and staff help local charities while participating in a fun activity.

The costume shop is holding workshops to make stuffed bears for charity. No experience is necessary, and participants will receive instructions on how to sew and stuff the toys. The bears will be donated to a local charity. Last semester, the project donated 120 bears to DOVES domestic violence shelter, the Children's Advocacy Center, and local police and fire departments. Costume Shop Supervisor and Lecturer of Theatre Becky Scott said once the bears were distributed last semester, she was immediately contacted and asked to make more.

The workshops will be held from 2:30 to 5 p.m. on the following dates:
  • Monday, April 11
  • Wednesday, April 13
  • Monday, April 25
  • Wednesday, April 27
“The bears give an opportunity for MSU students and staff to make a charity contribution without a lot of prep work on their part,” said Scott. “We provide supplies and instruction. It is a great event for students in organizations that require community service or philanthropy hours.”
