Speaker to discuss sustainable fashion, social justice

Soreyda Benedic-BegleyMorehead State's Gender Studies Program will host designer, radio host, community organizer and activist Soreyda Benedit-Begley for a lecture titled "Sustainable Fashion and Social Justice for All," Thursday, March 10, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Rader Hall room 111. The event is free and open to the public and MSU requires masks inside all classroom spaces. The event is part of MSU's celebration of Women's History Month.

Originally from Honduras, Benedit-Begley is now based in Lexington. Because of her experience working in sweatshops as a teenager in her native country, she has advocated for fair trade, women's rights and sustainable development. She incorporates unconventional recycled materials into her clothing designs, including paper, plastic bags and even tree bark.

The event is sponsored by the Gender Studies Program and the Caudill College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
