MSU’s Sigma Pi chapter celebrates 50-year anniversary

The Delta-Rho Chapter of Sigma Pi Fraternity at Morehead State University celebrated 50 years with a reunion this past weekend in Morehead. More than 150 Sigma Pi alumni and active students gathered on campus.

In addition to a weekend of activities and social events, there was donor reception for those who donated to the Sigma Pi Educational Foundation and the Delta-Rho Alumni Association Chapter Education Fund. A banquet took place Saturday, April 2, at the Adron Doran University Center (ADUC) Ballroom featuring MSU President Dr. Jay Morgan, an initiated member of Sigma Pi at his alma mater Murray State University, and the first president of the Delta-Rho Chapter, Bob Guillaume (Class of 1972, 1974). It included a silent auction to raise money for scholarships and time to celebrate, dance and rekindle relationships within the Sigma Pi brotherhood.

"This past weekend was more than just an alumni reunion; it was the family reunion for Sigma Pi," said Caleb Browning, an active member of Sigma Pi Fraternity. "As a current student, it was amazing to spend time with alumni and hear stories about their time at MSU. I look forward to our next reunion when I can attend as an alum."

This 50-year reunion event, organized by Daniel Daughtery (Class of 1992, 1993) and Charles Eldridge (Class of 1989, 1993), took place this year after being postponed due to public health concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Delta-Rho Chapter of Sigma Pi Fraternity was founded at MSU in 1971.

"It was absolutely worth the over two years of work put into the planning after two years of planning and COVID-related postponements," Daughtery said. "We couldn't have pulled this off without the help of Dr. Morgan and the entire MSU Alumni Association staff, who helped us with everything from hotel room blocks, website development and payment processing, event planning and the use of the ADUC ballroom for our event."
