Omega Psi Phi Fraternity gathers to celebrate 50th anniversary, establishes scholarship
Members of the Psi Beta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi at Morehead State University gathered to celebrate their 50th anniversary in September.
"The University did an amazing job hosting our brothers on campus for our reunion," said event organizer Corey Curry (Class of 1997). "The growth of MSU is so evident and we were so excited to get back to campus and share our pride in our brotherhood and MSU."
During the weekend-long celebration held Sept. 16-17, the group reconnected with a social gathering and a special reunion lunch. At the luncheon, they dedicated the Omega Psi Phi Meeting room in the Eagle Diversity Education Center. The group named this space in recognition of a significant scholarship gift provided by their alumni. Their contribution created the Psi Beta Alumni Association Scholarship Endowment, which provides scholarships to current MSU students, with priority given to male African American students.
"Establishing this scholarship and naming this space after our brotherhood made our founders ‘hippopotamus happy and elephant elated,'" said Omega Psi Phi alum Dr. Lucien Yates III (Class of 1974 and 1977). "We are appreciative to the University for their continued support of our organization."
