MSPR student awards announced

Morehead State Public Radio (MSPR) provides opportunities for students to gain career skills and experience. MSPR is honoring two of those students with awards.

Clay Wallace, a senior convergent media major from Frankfort, is the recipient of the 2023 MSPR Outstanding Student Award and Karina Gonzalez, a senior from Mt. Sterling double-majoring in Spanish and Biomedical Sciences, is the recipient of the 2023 Community Advisory Board (CAB) Student Leadership Award.

The Outstanding Student Award is presented annually to an intern, work-study or volunteer student who worked at MSPR during the past year (2022). Selected by the MSPR staff, the recipient is chosen based on leadership, dependability, initiative, and personal development while performing quality work and an overall commitment to MSPR.

The CAB Student Leadership Award is presented annually to an intern, work-study or volunteer student who worked at MSPR during the past year (2022). Selected by MSPR's Community Advisory Board, the recipient is chosen based on personal achievements, leadership, volunteerism, and campus and community involvement.

"I congratulate Clay and Karina on their success and achievements, contributions to the community, and for their dedication to the mission of Morehead State Public Radio," said Paul Hitchcock, MSPR general manager.

MSPR relies on student work studies, interns, and volunteers, performing various essential roles, including news gathering, interviewing and reporting, audio editing, engineering and production.

"WMKY offers a wide variety of hands-on opportunities in a professional and educational environment. We value the hard work by our student staff and their commitment to our listeners," added Hitchcock.

Serving more than 20 counties throughout eastern Kentucky, southern Ohio, and western West Virginia, Morehead State Public Radio (WMKY) broadcasts from the campus of Morehead State University at 90.3FM and online at www.wmky.org.
