Cultural Competency Certificate offered online
Morehead State University is now offering an online certification in cultural competency designed to help students create positive social and societal change.
The goal of the cultural competency certificate is to foster an understanding of basic elements of cultural competency, including knowledge, self-awareness, and application of diversity, inclusion, and equity concepts such as various social categories impacting:
- Identity
- Intersectionality
- Perspective-taking
- Privilege
- Oppression
- Implicit and explicit bias
- Microaggressions
- Antiracism
- Allyship
- Cross-cultural dialogue
- Self-reflection
MSU is one of the first public schools in Kentucky to develop a certification in cultural competency that students can list on their resumes. The program can be taken entirely online and requires students to complete four core courses and two electives.
To sign up for the cultural competency certification program, contact Professor of Sociology Dr. Bernadette Barton at b.barton@moreheasdstate.edu, or follow the standard undergraduate admissions process.
