KCTM presents 'Sounds of Our Heritage' concert
Morehead State University's Kentucky Center for Traditional Music (KCTM) will display student talent and the musical tradition of Appalachia at its "Sounds of Our Heritage" concert. The event is at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 8, at the Rowan County Arts Center.
This performance is one of two KCTM public concerts each year (one each semester) that features all sections of the Traditional Music Ensemble. The students work with their faculty bandleaders to present musical selections that highlight musical styles of the southern Appalachian region, including bluegrass, country, old-time, blues and gospel, among others.
"These concerts are an important part of KCTM's outreach efforts. It is an opportunity for students to gain firsthand performance experience and put their studies into action while also providing high-quality entertainment for our community," said Daxson Lewis, director of KCTM. "I am very appreciative of our community and their continued support of our program and our students. It is encouraging to see our friends in the audience each semester cheering on our students as they hone their craft."
