Morehead State Equestrian Team shines at IHSA Western Semifinals
Morehead State's equestrian team members qualified for further competition at the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) Western Semifinals, hosted by Mississippi State in March. Three riders from MSU competed:
Shelby Carrico, a freshman agribusiness major from Piketon, Ohio, placed fourth in individual open reining.
Emma Owens, a senior agribusiness major from Lexington, came in fourth in individual rookie western horsemanship.
Kaitlyn Praisler, a junior equine science major from West Salem, Ohio, was named reserve champion in individual open western horsemanship.
The three will move on to compete at the IHSA National Championship in Lexington on May 3-7, 2023. This is the second consecutive year MSU has been represented at the IHSA National Championship.
"We are so proud of how our riders are representing themselves and our program," said Equestrian Team Coach Luke Brock. "Their dedication, competitive nature and sportsmanship has gotten them to this point, and we cannot wait to see them succeed at IHSA Nationals."
